TEXTILE TREATMENTS
II. Adhesion Promotion -
The basic treatments employed as prime coats and cover coats for adhesion of rubber to textile include:
- 1. RFL (Resorcinol-Formaldehyde-Latex) dips -
- a. Neoprene - for chloroprene and chlorbutyl rubber
- b. Nitrile - for NBR, SBR
- c. SB Vinylpyridine - for SBR, EPDM, butyl
Substrates include: Nylon (scoured and heat set), fiberglass, polyester,
cotton and Kevlar* see footnote1.
- 2. Polymer/resin (crosslinked) -
- for adhesion to fluoroelastomers,
- i.e. bio-phenol cured Fluoroelastomer Viton* - see footnote2.
Subtrate: Nylon, Kevlar*.
- 3. Silicone -
- reactive silane for specialty elastomers and peroxide cured silicone rubber
Subtrate: Nylon, Kevlar*,Nomex* see footnote1.
- 4. Specialty adhesives on request -
- rubber to metal bonding, high or low-tack modifications, acrylic, urethane, natural rubber.
